Position Summary:

The R & D Designer will act as the primary designer and project manager responsible for developing new products from concept through initial production launch. Extensive use of 3D modeling software to generate concepts, prototypes, and finalized product drawings. This position will lead a team with cross-functional representatives from all departments through a product development process to define product requirements, accelerate ideas, and develop detailed designs.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prioritize new product opportunities based on estimated value to the company and available resources
  • Work with marketing and sales departments to clearly define all product requirements and cost objectives
  • Set and maintain realistic budget and scheduling milestones for the development process
  • Lead team events to accelerate the product development cycle and achieve the best design solutions
  • Utilize engineering and design resources to incorporate existing technology into new products
  • Work closely with production employees to develop prototype products and design for cost and manufacturability
  • Present product concepts and new product opportunities to Sales, Marketing, and R & D Team
  • Participate in conceptual through final design of new products
  • Utilize 3D modeling software to develop detailed plans and create drawings for fabrication
  • Conduct testing of prototypes and write reports documenting results
  • Participate and make recommendations regarding ongoing product improvements
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • S. Degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology
  • Minimum of 3 years design experience
  • Strong background in detail, assembly, and weldment drawings
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and Word
  • Strong verbal and communication skills
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work independently
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams, as well as work effectively on teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous manufacturing experience.
