PS Flood Barriers Case Study: Con Edison

New York City, New York

As a result of Hurricane Sandy in 2012, Con Edison, an energy company providing electricity, gas and steam service to more than 10 million people in New York City and Westchester County, needed to improve its flood protection efforts in facilities where gas pipes surfaced. Con Edison selected PS Flood Barriers to step up to the challenge, and it accepted.

All parties involved had a difficult task ahead of them, as this project had a particularly tight schedule, and the PS Flood Barriers team at PS DOORS came through when it mattered most, providing flood planks, a flood hatch and flood doors.

“On a demanding project, PS Flood Barriers delivered what we needed when we needed it,” says Mark Rimler, building and environmental construction project specialist at Con Edison. “One of the most impressive things was PS Flood Barriers’ shop and the flexibility it offered. We were able to incorporate changes into our existing production run, and we would have never been able to meet our schedule if PS Flood Barriers hadn’t been so accommodating.”

Rimler also admired the craftsmanship of PS Flood Barriers’ products. “When you look at the manufacturing of their products, it’s more robust than their competitors,” he says. “It’s a superior product, and you know that it’s going to perform the way it should. If I had my druthers, I would solely work with PS Flood Barriers. They have a superior product, and they really came through for us in a huge way.”
